Wildlife conservation needs veterinarians.
Efforts to preserve and restore threatened wildlife cannot succeed without skilled veterinarians. From rehabilitation and translocation, to vaccination campaigns and emergency response, wildlife vets help keep vulnerable populations healthy and growing. But across many landscapes where WCN and our Partners work, the need for this expertise far outstrips the supply. Some regions have little or no veterinary coverage, and many trained vets who are ready to serve face professional isolation and limited access to equipment and supplies.
Gaps like these threaten to undermine investments in wildlife conservation. That is why WCN is determined to close them. Our vision is to build and support a network of highly skilled, well-connected, and properly equipped wildlife veterinarians. Our initial focus will be on Africa and Southeast Asia, where the need is most acute.
Building and Equipping a Network of Skilled Veterinarians
Grants
The Wildlife Veterinary Program offers grants to support critical veterinary initiatives, tactical and diagnostic equipment, cross-border collaboration, and rapid emergency funding for disease outbreaks and urgent interventions.
Training & Support
We identify exceptional wildlife veterinarians and offer them multi-year career development tailored to their specific needs. This can include support for advanced hands-on training, access to professional mentors, and financial support for critical projects or personal needs.
Building Networks
Conservationists of all kinds succeed when they are part of a community—one built through peer networks, shared experience, and in-person exchanges. The same is true for wildlife veterinarians, which is why we are establishing and nurturing those networks.
