We’re grateful for the generous support that makes WCN’s conservation work possible. This spring, we wanted to share some updates that may be helpful as you plan your giving this year, including new changes to the tax law and resources that reflect WCN’s commitment to transparency and efficiency.

Important Tax Update for WCN Donors

New federal tax laws are changing how charitable donations are deducted starting in 2026.

⭐New non-itemizer deduction: Donors who take the standard deduction can now deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for couples) in cash gifts (checks, credit card charges, online donations and payroll deductions). The deduction does not apply to donor advised funds (DAFs).

⭐Giving floor for itemizers: Donors who itemize can only deduct the portion of giving above 0.5 % of their adjusted gross income.

⭐Top earner deduction cap: The tax benefit for high-income earners (37% bracket) is capped at 35%. Please consult your tax or financial advisor for more details on changes to charitable deductions.

Important Correction: In our recent printed version of “Notes from the Field,” we incorrectly stated that itemizers can deduct contributions “only up to 0.5%” of adjusted gross income.” The correct information: donors who itemize can deduct the portion of giving above 0.5% of their AGI — it’s a floor, not a cap. We apologize for the confusion and have corrected the language above.

DAFpay Opportunity

WCN has adopted DAFpay to make it faster and simpler for supporters to give directly from their donor-advised fund (DAF). DAFs are a charitable giving vehicle that allows people to make an irrevocable, tax-deductible contribution of cash or other assets to the fund (held at a sponsoring charity). The donor takes an immediate tax deduction, can recommend grants to their favorite (IRS-qualified) nonprofits over time, and can invest the funds for tax-free growth. You will see DAFpay as an option when you donate online at wildnet.org/donate.

As always, consult your tax advisor to determine the best giving strategy for your personal situation.

A Wise Investment

In addition to having a 100% 4-star rating on Charity Navigator, WCN is also accredited by the Better Business Bureau, specifically through the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, which functions as a charity evaluator.
