Emma grew up roving all over California, documenting every backcountry exploration with field sketches of wildlife and native flora. As part of her B.A. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara, she expanded her studies outside California ecosystems to the Patagonian steppe and southern Andes, researching whales, Magellanic penguins, guanacos, and a plethora of native flora in her traverse of Argentina. Weaving together her experiences observing diverse biomes, and her lifelong visual art practice, she sought to combine her passions in a fusion of scientific and visual creative communication. Completing a Post-Graduate Certificate in Science Illustration from California State University Monterey Bay, she went on to work as a freelance illustrator, animator, and graphic designer for an array of research institutions, universities, and private companies. Emma has found a home within the team at WCN, and loves helping turn conservation updates into visual stories that connect conservationists and their supporters across continents. When she’s not working, you can find her surfing, painting, dancing, sculpting, playing the bass, and walking in the redwoods.
