Africa’s lions are in trouble. In an interview with WCN’s Director for Conservation Initiatives, Dr. Peter Lindsey spoke to The EastAfrican on threats to lions and why protecting them is a matter of urgency. They discuss the current state of lions in Africa, as well as the impact it would cause for the human population if the King of Beasts were to go extinct.
Lions provide a competitive edge for Africa as a tourist draw that other regions of the world can’t compete with, generating $34 billion for Africa every year and those revenues are set to increase as demand for wildlife viewing grows.
The future for lions is uncertain but it’s not too late to turn the tide and protect their future.
